High School Cultural Club, Salvation Army & “Boots” Chouinard

This week, on Local Pulse Show 163, Joe’s guests were:

Grace Shelley, Paul Goguen & Aileen Maconi – International Cultural Club of Newburyport High School (Facebook)- The Cultural Club will be traveling to Cuba in February, 2017. We talked about the purpose of the trip, what they hope to learn, and what they’re looking forward to. We also talked about a major fundraiser for the Club, Havana Night, December 2, 2016 at the Belleville Church

Major Todd Hughes, Newburyport Salvation Army (Facebook) – We talked about the mission and work of the Salvation Army, how this is the busiest time of the year for them, and how to help the Salvation Army help those in need. We also talked about the upcoming food and toy drives.

Robert “Boots” Chouinard, World War 2 Veteran – We talked about his experience in WW2, the end of the war, and how his military service led to his college and college football career at Boston College. Boots’ recollections his experiences adds to the oral history that we can all learn from, and we’re pleased he found time to come on the show.

Donna Holaday, Mayor, City of Newburyport (Facebook) – In her semi-regular appearance on Local Pulse, Joe and the Mayor discussed a good number of topics, including, the intermodal facility (the parking garage), economic development, the waste water treatment plant odor mitigation project, Waterfront West, new resident info night, the plans for the Brown School, and more. The Mayor also provided a list of a number of upcoming meetings that may be of interest to Newburyport residents.

This week Joe hosted the 1st Essex District State Representative broadcast. Representative James Kelcourse and his challenger, Brianna Sullivan, joined us for the entire hour to discuss the issues surrounding the upcoming election.
Topics covered include:
  • Why should voters vote for you?
  • Working with/voting against party leadership
  • Gun Violence
  • Opioid Crisis
  • Education Funding
  • Economic Development

This was a lively broadcast, and most of all, provides voters with the final opportunity to hear from the candidates.
